Two people killed in Sumter County crash on SR 91; Inverness man involved in crash not injured

Two people were killed at the result of a two vehicle traffic crash that occurred in Sumter County, Florida on Dec. 22, 2022 at 12:57 am on Sumter County SR 91 (Florida Turnpike).

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), two vehicles were traveling north on SR 91 -  a sedan containing only the driver as a passenger, a 27 year-old man from Inverness, Florida who was not injured in the crash, and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 38 year-old woman from Ocala, Florida, who was one of seven passengers inside the SUV, all from Ocala, Florida. 

Near Milepost 304, the sedan overtook the SUV and collided with its rear. Upon impact, the sedan traveled to final rest on the grass shoulder of the highway, and the SUV traveled to the grass median and overturned times, ejecting one passenger from the vehicle. 

Two of the passengers traveling in the SUV suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, a 40 year old man and an 11 year-old boy. The other passengers suffered minor injuries: two girls, ages 10 and 14, a 37 year-old woman, and a 14 year-old boy.
