Two Citrus County residents killed, two seriously injured, as result of Hernando County crash

Hernando County, Florida - Two Citrus County, Florida residents were killed and two were seriously injured as the result of a two vehicle crash that occurred in Brooksville. Florida on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022 at 6:30 pm. Two others involved in the crash received minor injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) a 79 year-old man from Homosassa, FL - one of the two people killed in the crash -  was driving a sedan, traveling north on US 41 in the left turn lane, to turn left onto CR 581 (Snow Memorial Hwy.). Meanwhile, a 40 year-old man from Floral City, FL was driving a second sedan, traveling south on US 41, approaching the intersection with CR 581, when the first sedan turned left into the path of the second sedan and was struck by it.

After the impact, both vehicles rotated to final rest in the roadway, and the second sedan overturned.

The driver of the first sedan and a passenger in the second sedan, a 68 year old woman from Floral City, FL, were both transported to area hospitals, but later expired from their injuries.

A 74 year-old woman from Inverness, FL, a passenger in the first sedan driven by the man from Homosassa who died as a result of the crash, received minor injuries.

The driver in the second sedan received minor injuries. In addition to the 68 year-old woman who died as the result of the crash, he also carried two other passengers, a 39 year-old woman, and a male teenager, who both received serious injuries. All the passengers in the second sedan were residents of Floral City, FL.

The press release stated that all the passengers of both vehicles were wearing a seat belt, with the exception of the 39 year-old woman from Floral City in the second sedan.
