Boy, age 10, dies as result of ATV overturn crash at Dunnellon, FL mud bog

Marion County, Florida - A 10 year-old boy from Dunnellon, Florida died on Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2022, as the result of an all terrain vehicle (ATV) crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred at 5:13 pm, when the boy was operating a 2004 Suzuki Vinson 500 ATV at The Florida Highlands Mudhole, located at 8015 SW 150th St. in Dunnellon, FL. The ATV was traveling west in the northeast section of the mud bog, near SW 80th Ave., when for unknown reasons, the ATV overturned and ejected the youth. The ATV landed on the boy, who was transported to the AdventHealth Ocala medical facility (the former Florida Hospital Ocala and Munroe Regional Medical Center) where he was pronounced deceased.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the boy was not wearing a helmet or a seatbelt restraint.

According to several newspaper accounts of the incident, the boy was a fourth grade student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, Florida, where he was a member of the school's safety patrol.
