Homosassa, Florida - A four month-old boy from Homosassa was injured in a traffic crash  that occurred between an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a sedan on Saturday night, Nov. 19, at 9:40 pm.

The injured boy was transported by Citrus County EMS to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa, Florida. None of the other passengers in the two vehicles was injured as a result of the crash; all were from Homosassa.

The ATV was a Bad Boy Buggy SxS, driven by a 47 year-old man, whose other passengers included three females, ages 47, 24 and 15.

The sedan was a 2010 Honda Accord four-door, driven by a 49 year-old man who carried no passenger.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the ATV was traveling south on County Road 490 (W. Homosassa Trail), about ten feet west of S. Bolton Ave. The sedan was also traveling south on County Road 490, approaching the intersection of S. Bolton Ave., and due to the ATV being operated in the roadway with no lights on, the driver of the sedan was unable to see the ATV, and the right front of the sedan collided with the left rear of the ATV.

As a result of the impact, the driver of the sedan lost control of the car, and traveled off the roadway onto the west shoulder where its front collided with a standing tree. The sedan came to rest, facing west, at the area of impact with the tree, on the west shoulder of County Road 490, just south of S. Bolton Ave.

The ATV came to rest on the southwest corner of County Road 490, just south of S. Bolton Ave., facing east.

The FHP trooper documented, that based on the physical evidence and statements of witnesses, the driver of the ATV was determined to be the primary contributor to the crash. He was issued a citation for violation of required child restraint, and improper operation of an ATV on a public road.
