The crash took place at 7:30 am at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 (Ponce De Leon Blvd.) and County Road 476 (Lake Lindsey Rd.) in Brooksville.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman from Weeki Wachee was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV), traveling east on County Road 476 approaching the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 98.

A tractor/trailer, driven by a 67 year-old man from Floral City, FL, was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 98, approaching the intersection of County Road 476.

A pickup truck, driven by a 56 year-old man from Brooksville, FL, was in the left turn lane of U.S. Hwy. 98, approaching the intersection of County Road 476 - with a second pickup truck, driven by a 29 year-old man from Brooksville, FL, traveling behind it. Both trucks were traveling north on U.S. Hwy. 98, approaching the intersection of County Road 476, stopped in the left turn lane due to the tractor/trailer approaching the intersection.

The SUV, from a stop sign and a flashing red traffic signal, entered the path of the tractor/trailer, which resulted in the front of the tractor/trailer colliding into the left side of the SUV. Due to the impact, the SUV was propelled into the two pickup trucks, which caused the firist pickup truck to overturn onto its roof. The SUV then re-entered the southbound travel lane, and its left rear collided into the left side of the tractor/trailer. All four vehicles came to rest within the intersection and travel lanes.

The press release stated the driver of the SUV received injuries that were deemed critical, that the driver of the tractor/trailer received no injuries, and the driver of the second pickup truck also received no injuries. The driver of the first pickup truck and his 55 year-old male passenger from Spring Hill, FL both received minor injuries. All parties involved in the crash, with the exception of the driver of the SUV, were wearing  a seatbelt.
