Gainesville woman killed when bicycle struck by car on SR 24 in Otter Creek, FL

Otter Creek (Levy County), Florida - A 63-year-old woman from Gainesville, Florida was killed, early Saturday morning, September 3, at 4:40 am, as she was riding a bicycle in Otter Creek, traveling east on State Road 24, near the intersection with SW 3rd Street. According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a BMW sedan, also traveling east on State Road 24, collided with the rear of the bicycle, which caused the woman to be ejected from the bicycle onto the south shoulder of State Road 24. The press release stated that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, and also that the driver of the BMW, a 31 year-old man from High Springs, Florida, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured as the result of the collision. The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
