Trenton man killed, his passenger seriously injured, in Crystal River crash

Crystal River, Florida - A two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 3:00 pm, Monday, afternoon, July 11, 2022, took the life of a 47 year-old man from Trenton, Florida and seriously injured his passenger, a 48 year-old woman, also from Trenton. The crash occurred in Crystal River, on U.S. Highway 19, near the intersection with West Dunnellon Road (Citrus County Road 488).

According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the Trenton man was driving a pickup truck, traveling north on U.S, Highway 19, south of West Dunnellon Road.

The other vehicle, also a pickup truck, driven by a 65 year-old man from Ocala, Florida, was traveling west on West Dunnellon Road.  

At the intersection, the truck driven by the Ocala man turned left under a green traffic signal, as the Trenton man's truck continued traveling on U.S. Highway 19, under a red traffic signal, which resulted in the Trenton man's truck colliding into the left side of the Ocala man's truck. After the impact, both vehicles rotated and came to rest within the intersection. 

The press release stated that the Trenton man suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, and neither he nor his passenger was wearing a seatbelt. 

The Ocala man carried three other passengers in his truck, a 63 year-old woman, also of Ocala, Florida, and a 75 man and a 65 year-old woman, both of Careywood Idaho. The press release stated that they all suffered minor injuries and each was wearing a seatbelt.
