Inverness man, driving van, killed in Brooksville crash with pickup truck

Brooksville, Florida - An Inverness man, the sole passenger inside a van, died as the result of a traffic crash with a pickup truck, Sunday morning, June 19, at 11:12 am. The crash occurred in Brooksville, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 at Lake Lindsay Road (Hernando County Road 476).

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the van driven by the Inverness man was traveling west on Lake Lindsey Road, while the other vehicle involved in the crash, a pickup truck with five passengers, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 98. At the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Lake Lindsay Road, under a flashing red traffic signal, the van entered into the path of the pickup truck, and as a result, the front of the truck collided with the left side of the van.

Afer the impact, the van traveled to the northwest corner of the intersection and struck a tree, while the pickup truck rotated to rest within the intersection.
  
The driver of the van suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

The five occupants of the pickup truck, all residents of Brooksville, received minor injuries: the 32 year-old male driver and his passengers, a 26 year-old female and three juveniles, two boys ages 12 an 7 and a 1 year-old girl. 

The press release stated that all the passengers inside both vehicles wore a seatbelt restraint, with the exception of the driver of the pickup truck.
