Marion County, Florida - One person died and three people were injured in a traffic crash that occurred on Friday afternoon, May 13, at 2:10 pm, on County Road 326 near the intersection of NW 160th Avenue, in Ocala, Florida.
According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 61 year-old woman from Williston, Florida was driving a pickup truck, traveling west on CR 326, behind several other vehicles. At the same time, a 23 year-old woman carrying two passengers, all from Morriston, Florida, was driving a sedan, traveling east (in the opposite direction of travel) on CR 326.
The press release stated that the westbound pickup truck moved into the eastbound lane of CR 326, in an attempt to pass another vehicle, but the driver was unable to pass and also unable to merge back into the westbound lane, so she veered the pickup truck onto the south grass shoulder. At the same time, the driver of the sedan also attempted to avoid colliding with the truck, by also veering onto the south grass shoulder, and as a result, the front right of the pickup truck collided with the front of the sedan. The impact redirected both vehicles into a southwesterly direction of travel, and they both came to rest, facing west, on the south grass shoulder.
The press release stated that the driver of the pickup truck, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious inuries.
The press release also stated that the driver of the sedan, who was also wearing a seatbelt, sustained critical injuries, but neither of her two passengers was wearing a seatbelt. Her 37 year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene of the crash, and her 19 year-old male passenger sustained serious injures. The driver of the sedan and her surviving passenger were both transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
