Alachua County, FL - The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver and the vehicle he was driving, involved in a hit and run crash in Gainesville, Florida that took the life of a 28 year-old man from Starke, Florida.
Investigators with the FHP believe this crash occurred sometime after midnight on Monday April 25, 2022. The crash occurred on State Road 24, 1.1 miles west of NE 127th Street in Gainesville, Florida.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release, the hit and run vehicle is of an unknown color, but it's likely a 1998 to 2004 Ford F250 or F350 truck, or a 2000 to 2004 Ford Excursion sports utility vehicle (SUV). The vehicle fled the scene of the crash in an unknown direction, but the vehicle should have significant damage to the passenger side head light assembly.
According to the FHP, the hit and run Ford truck/SUV was traveling east on State Road 24 in the right lane. The man who was killed was riding a motorized Schwinn bicycle, traveling east on the paved shoulder of State Road 24. For unknown reasons, the Ford truck/SUV traveled partially onto the shoulder, where the right front of the vehicle struck the rear of the motorized bicycle. The impact ejected the bicycle rider from the bicycle into the eastbound ditch. The rider of the bicycle was pronounced deceased on scene.
