Homosassa, Florida - Three of four passengers were hospitalized as the result of a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 4:33 pm, Tuesday, March 15, on W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., 300 feet west of S. Peasant Pt., in Homosassa (Citrus County).
According to the Florida Highway Patarol, a 48 year-old man from Beverly Hills, Florida was driving a green 1993 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado pickup truck, traveling east on W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., and was reaching to the back seat to hand his 10 year-old son (also from Beverly Hills) a cell phone, which allowed the truck to drift into the westbound lane and into the path of a green 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck that was traveling west in the same area. As a result, the front left of the Chevrolet truck struck the front left of the Ford truck.
As a result of the impact, the Ford truck spun to the left, then came to rest facing south across the westbound lane at the point of impact, west of S Peasant Pt. After the impact, the Chevrolet truck continued traveling past the point of impact and came to rest facing northeast on a driveway off the westbound shoulder of W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., also west of S Peasant Pt.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 29 year-old man from Homosassa, Florida, carried a 22 year-old female passenger, also from Homosassa. The driver was transported to HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, Florida, and his passenger was transported to Citrus Hills Medical Center in Hernando, Florida. The report stated that the driver will be issued a citation for having no driver's license (never had one), and the passenger will be issued a citation for wearing no seatbelt as a front seat passenger over the age of 18.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported by AirLife 4 medical helicopter to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida, and his son was not transported for medical care (with no or minor injuries). The crash report stated that the driver will be issued a citation for failing to drive in a single lane. Both passengers were wearing a seatbelt.
