March 7, 9-vehicle crash on I-75 in Alachua, FL, seriously injuries 5 people

Alachua, Florida - According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 5 people were seriously injured in a 9-vehicle traffic crash involving 15 people that occurred in Alachua, FL at 5:00 pm on Monday March 7. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate-75 at the 399 mile marker, at the US 441 exit ramp (of Northwest U.S. Hwy. 441) in Alachua, Florida (in Alachua County).

According to the FHP crash report, all the vehicles were traveling north on I-75. * See below for the available details of the vehicles and occupants; the vehicles are listed numerically for the order in which they were involved in the crash.

According to a FHP press release, Vehicle 1 was traveling on the US 441 exit ramp, when traffic ahead of the vehicle slowed abruptly, and in an attempt to avoid striking the vehicle in front of him, the driver of Vehicle 1 swerved to the left, and the left side of Vehicle 1 was struck by the right front of Vehicle 2, even though the driver of Vehicle 2 had also attempted to move to his left. When Vehicle 2 came to final rest, it caught on fire and also lost a large amount of diesel fuel. After the initial collision occurred between Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2, a series of collisions took place in which vehicles were either struck by another vehicle, or they struck another vehicle or the concrete barrier wall.

Vehicle 1 - 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a utility trailer 
        Driver: 32 year-old man from High Springs, FL who suffered serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt, and carried two passengers: a 36 man from High Springs, FL, and a man from Fort White, FL whose age was not stated; neither of the passengers was injured and neither was wearing a seatbelt.

Vehicle 2 - 2005 Volvo tractor trailer combination (caught on fire and spilled diesel fuel)
        Driver: 36 year-old man from Dallas, TX who suffered serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.

Vehicle 3 - 2001 Honda Accord sedan
        Driver: 35 year-old woman from Fort White, FL. She suffered serious injuries, was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.

Vehicle 4  - 2017 Toyota Yaris sedan 
        Driver: 51 year-old man from Gainesville, FL. He suffered serious injuries, was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.

Vehicle 5 - 2015 GMC Yukon sport utility vehicle 
        Driver: 36 year-old woman from High Springs, FL. She carried four passengers, all from High Springs, FL. She and her passengers were all wearing a seatbelt, and no one suffered injuries. Passengers: 45 year-old man, 4 year-old boy, 6 year-old girl and 7 year-old girl.

Vehicle 6 - 2017 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle
        Driver: 53 year-old man from High Springs, FL. He suffered no injuries, was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.

Vehicle 7 - 2006 Dodge van
        Driver: 31 year-old man from Fort White, FL. He suffered no injuries, was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.

Vehicle 8 - 2016 Chrysler 200 sedan
        Driver: 32 year-old woman from Williston, FL. She suffered serious injuries, was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.

Vehicle 9 - 2020 Nissan Rogue sport utility vehicle
        Driver: 22 year-old man from Gainesville, FL. He suffered no injuries, was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passengers.
