Homosassa, Florida - At 9:40 am on Sunday, Feb. 27, a 29 year-old woman from Homosassa ran a stop sign and traveled into the path of a 29 year-old male deputy's Citrus County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle, which resulted in a traffic  crash.

According to a crash report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a gray 2013 Chevrolet Malibu four-door vehicle, traveling south on S. Pittsburgh Ave., approaching  W. Grover Cleveland Blvd. The report stated that that woman told the Florida Highway Patrol trooper who investigated the crash that she failed to observe the deputy's vehicle, which was traveling east on W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., approaching S. Pittsburgh Ave. As a result, the woman crashed into the deputy's patrol vehicle, a 2020 Ford Explorer utility vehicle. The report stated that the woman violated the deputy's right of way by running the stop sign.

The Malibu was relocated to the parking lot of Walgreen's pharmacy after the trooper arrived on scene. The report also stated that the deputy commented that his left elbow was tingling, but he refused the medical services of emergency medical services on scene, and the woman was also not transported to a medical facility for medical care.

Crystal River, Florida - Another crash involving a Citrus County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle occurred on Monday morning, Feb. 28, at 6:40 am, on N. Turkey Oak Dr., at the intersection of N. Citrus Ave. (CR 495) in Crystal River, FL.

According to a crash report by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), both vehicles involved in the crash were traveling on N. Turkey Oak Dr. under a green traffic light, at the intersection of N. Citrus Ave. (CR 495)

A 2019 Ford Taurus four-door, sedan, a marked Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) patrol car, driven by a 47 year-old male deputy, was traveling east, and a 2018 Kia Forte four-door sedan, driven by a 29 year-old man from Crystal River, was traveling west. The crash report stated that the patrol car failed to yield right of way to the Kia and began to make a left turn into the intersection and into the path of the Kia, and as a result, the front left of patrol car struck the front left of the Kia. Both vehicles came to rest within the intersection. the patrol vehicle facing northeast, and the Kia facing west.

Both drivers were transported by emergency medical services to area hospitals, the deputy to Citrus Memorial Hospital (now HCA Florida Citrus Hospital, as of March 3) in Inverness, Florida, and the Kia driver to Bravera Health Seven Rivers hospital in Crystal River, Florida.

The FHP trooper reported that he issued no citation to the deputy because he was on duty and within the performance of his duties.
