Two motorcyclists from Ocala killed in SR 200, Hernando, FL crash with pickup truck, Feb 17

Hernando (Citrus County), Florida - Two Ocala, Florida residents riding a motorcycle suffered fatal injuries as the result of a crash with a pickup truck on SR 200, near the intersection of E. Orchid St. in Hernando, Florida, at 5:25 pm, Thursday afternoon, February 17, 2022.

According to a FHP press release, a 31 year-old Hernando, Florida man was driving a pickup truck, traveling south on SR 200 (N. Carl G. Rose Hwy.), north of E. Orchid St., at the driveway entrance to the Sunoco gas station, located at 6695 N. Carl G. Rose Hwy. 

The motorcycle, driven by  a 72 year-old man, who carried a 77 year-old female passenger, both from Ocala, Florida, was traveling north on SR 200. 

According to a FHP press release, the pickup truck failed to yield right of way to the motorcycle, and it turned left, into its path. As a result, the left front of the pickup truck collided with the left rear of the motorcycle, which departed from the highway and struck several reflective traffic posts before colliding with the business sign of 19th Hole Liquors (the physical location of the business is 3460 E. McDonald Ln.), ejecting both occupants from the motorcycle. Both were transported to an area hospital where they both expired from injuries suffered during the crash. 

The man driving the pickup truck received no injuries, according to the press release.
