Ocala, Florida (Marion County) - A 22 year-old woman from Williston, Florida was one of two people killed in a two-vehicle traffic crash that occured at 6:41 pm, Saturday evening, January 8, 2022, in Ocala. The other fatality was a 54 year-old man from Miami, Florida. According to a press release from the FHP, debris from the crash struck the windshield of a third vehicle that was traveling adjacent to the Williston woman's vehicle, but neither she nor her passenger was injured
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the traffic crash occurred on U. S. Highway 27 (US 27) at NW 82nd Street Road in Ocala.
The man from Miami was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), traveling north (wrong direction of travel) in the inside, southbound lane of US 27, and the other two vehicles were traveling south (correct direction of travel) in the southbound lanes of US 27, side by side; the vehicles were a sedan operated by the woman from Williston in the inside lane, and a third vehicle, another SUV, traveling in the outside lane, driven by a 43 year-old woman from Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
The FHP press release stated that the front of the Miami man's SUV collided with the front of the Williston woman's sedan, and both vehicles rotated slightly clockwise, as a unit, before coming to final rest at the area where they collided, both upright, with the SUV facing northeast and the sedan facing southwest.
Debris from both vehicles struck the windshield of the third vehicle, the SUV driven by the woman from Dartmouth, Massachusetts, who came to a controlled stop on the west grass shoulder of US 27, south of the area where the two other vehicles collided. Neither she nor her 12 year old female passenger, also from Dartmouth, Massachusetts, were injured in the crash.
The other two drivers received fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
The press release stated that all passengers of the three vehicles were wearing a seatbelt, with the exception of the driver from Miami, who was not.
