Bicyclist killed in Inverness crash, CR 470, Jan 8
Inverness, Florida - A 29 year-old Inverness man was struck and killed by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle at 6:45 am, Tuesday morning, January 8, 2022, in Inverness. The crash occurred on Citrus County Road 470 (E. Gospel Island Rd.) at S. Bel Air Dr. According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling south on a dark highway, County Road 470, south of S. Bel Air Dr., with no lights on the bicycle. Meanwhile, a 69 year-old Inverness man was driving a Ford F150 pickup truck, also traveling south on County Road 470, behind the bicycle, when the truck ovetook and collided with the bicycle, and the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The press release stated that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, and the driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt.
