Sumter County, Florida - Three people were killed and three people were seriously injured in a single vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Interstate 75, south of State Road 44, near Wildwood, Florida, early Sunday morning, December 19, 2021, at 4:17 am

According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 22 year-old man from Dunnellon, Florida, was driving a pickup truck, traveling north on Interstate 75, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the wet roadway during foggy conditions, and the truck departed from the roadway, collided with a tree, and erupted into flames. 

The driver and two of his five passengers suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, which closed a portion of Interstate 75 until 9:50 am. The other two killed in the crash included two females from Ocala, Florida, ages 20 and 43. The three passengers who suffered serious injuries were also residents of Ocala, Florida, identified as two males, ages 18 and 19, and a female, age 19.

Due to Florida's victim protection law, Marsy's Law, the names of the passengers were not revealed.
