Williston (Levy County), Florida - Four people were injured as the result of a four-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 2:15 pm, Thursday afternoon, December 9, 2021, south of Williston, on U.S. Highway 41, at the intersection with SE 11th Place.
According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), around 2:15 pm, a pickup truck, driven by a 44 year-old woman from Williston, was traveling north on U. S. Highway 41, and slowed its speed due to a vehicle ahead of her being stopped within the roadway. Meanwhile, a sedan, also traveling north, driven by a 78 year-old man from Live Oak FL, traveling behind the pickup truck, crashed into the rear of the Williston woman's pickup truck.
A third vehicle, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 57 year-old woman from Laurinburg, NC was traveling south on U.S. Highway 41, and steered to the right in order to evert a collision with the sedan and the pickup truck, then overcorrected back to the left, crossing over the center line and colliding head-on with a pickup truck driven by a 28 year-old man from Williston.
As a result of the crash, four of the vehicles' occupants were transported to an area hospital as a trauma alert.
According to the press release, the driver of the sedan from Live Oak was not wearing a seatbelt and was seriously injured; his passenger, a 76 year-old woman, also from Live Oak, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries.
The 44 year-old female driver of the pickup truck, from Williston, was not injured, but her 63 year-old female passenger, also from Williston, received minor injuries; each was wearing a seatbelt.
The 57 year old female driver of the SUV, from Laurenburg, NC, who was wearing a seatbelt, received serious injuries; she carried no passenger.
The 28 year old male driver of the second pickup truck, from Williston, was not injuried; he was wearing a seatbelt and carried no passenger.
U.S. Highway 41 was closed for an hour and twenty minutes as a result of the crash.
