Two injured in Floral City, Dec. 1, single vehicle traffic crash

Floral City, Florida - Two Floral City residents were injured as the result of a traffic crash that was caused, according to the driver, due to her falling asleep at the wheel because she'd worked overnight at a hospital. The crash occurred at 9:40 am, Dec. 1, on Istachatta Rd. (CR 39), about 1,000 feet south of S. Giddens Way.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol crash report, the 31 year-old driver was operating a silver 2022 Kia Sportage utility vehicle, traveling in a southwesterly direction on S. Istachatta Rd., when the vehicle veered to the left and traveled onto the east shoulder, then onto a property located at 12441 S. Istachatta Rd., where the front left of the vehicle struck a tree. The collision directed the vehicle to rotate in a counterclockwise direction, then to overturn, rotating clockwise onto the roadway, where it came to rest facing northeast, partially in the northbound lane and partially on the east shoulder.

The driver and the passenger were both transported to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, Florida, the driver by emergency medical services Rescue 8, and the passenger by AirLife 4. 

The report stated that the driver and the passenger were each wearing a seatbelt. The trooper noted on the crash report, that he reccomended a driver's license re-examination for the driver, due to her statement that she fell asleep while driving.
