Bicyclist from Citrus Springs killed on SR 200 in Ocala, struck by pickup truck
Marion County, Florida - A 57 year-old Citrus Springs (Citrus County), Florida man riding a bicycle was killed, November 20, 2021, when a pickup truck drifted into the bicycle lane and struck the bicycle on State Road 200, east of SW 90th Street in Ocala, Florida, at 6:10 am.
According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 23 year-old man from Ocala, Florida was driving the pickup truck, traveling east on State Road 200 in the outside, right lane, which is adjacent to the bicycle lane, while the bicyclist was also traveling east, within the designated bicycle lane. The pickup truck drifted to the right, out of its lane of travel, and entered into the bicycle lane, which resulted in the right front of the truck striking the rear of the bicycle.
The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.
The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries during the crash. The truck carried no passengers, and the driver was wearing a seatbelt, according to the press release.
