Chiefland, Florida - An 80 year-old Chiefland woman was killed in a two vehicle crash that occurred in Chiefland at 9:15 pm, October 30. The other driver, a 56 year-old Chiefland man, received only minor injuries and was arrested on the scene of the crash, charged with driving under the influence (DUI) manslaughter, vehicular homicide and two counts of property damage while driving under the influence (DUI).
The crash occurred on Levy County Road 320 at NW 100th Avenue. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 80 year-old woman was driving a sports utiliy vehicle (SUV), traveling west on State Road 320, and the DUI driver was driving a sedan, also traveling west on State Road 320, behind behind the SUV, and the sedan struck the rear of the SUV, which caused both vehicles to travel onto the north shoulder. The 80 year-old woman driver was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
