No injures reported in Lecanto, three-vehicle, Sept. 3 crash

A three-vehicle traffic crash that occurred in Lecanto, Florida on Friday evening, Sept. 3, at the t-intersection of State Road 44 and S. Kensingrton Ave., was investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash report stated that no injuries were reported to the three drivers, each of whom was wearing a seatbelt, and none of the drivers carried a passenger.

The crash occurred at 9:35 pm. According to the crash report, a 90 year-old Inverness woman was driving a 2011 Toyota Avalon 4-door sedan, facing east on State Road 44 in the left turn lane, stopped at a steady yellow left turn arrow at the intersection of S Kensington Avenue. A second vehicle, a 2013 Ford Edge utility vehicle, driven by a 64 year-old Inverness woman, was traveling west in the outside lane of State Road 44, approaching a steady yellow light at the intersection of S Kensington Avenue, and a third vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan, driven by a 32 year-old Inverness woman, was facing south on S Kensington Avenue, stopped at a steady red light at the intersection of State Road 44.

The report stated that the Toyota Avalon failed to yield to westbound traffic on State Road 44, and attempted to turn left onto S Kensington Avenue. As a result, the front of the Ford Edge collided with the front right side of the Toyota Avalon. As a result of the collision, the Toyota Avalon rotated in a counterclockwise direction and began traveling in a southwesterly direction before entering the center grassy median of State Road 44, west of S> Kensington Avenue. The Ford Edge rotated counterclockwise and began traveling in a northwesterly direction; the front of the Ford Edge then collided with the front of the Chevrolet Impala.

The Toyota Avalon came to rest in the center grassy median of State Road 44, west of S> Kensington Avenue, facing south. The Ford Edge came to rest on the northwest corner of the intersection of State Road 44 and S. Kensington Avenue, facing northeast. The Chevrolet Impala came to rest in the southbound lane of S. Kensington Avenue, at the intersection of State Road 44, facing south. 

The driver of the Toyota Avalon was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left turn.
