Man hospitalized after Chiefland, FL crash of pickup truck with cement truck

Chiefland, Levy County, Florida - A traffic crash in Chiefland, Florida, at 1:50 pm on Thursday afternoon, August 26, resulted in serious injuries to the driver of a pickup truck, but no injuries to the two occupants of the other vehicle, a cement truck. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 19, approximately 500 feet north of the intersection with Levy Counrty Road 346A.

According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2015 Mack concrete truck - driven by a 45 year-old man who carried a 51 year-old passenger, both of Lake City, Florida - was traveling north on US 19, while the second vehicle - a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by a 73 year-old man from Mayo, Florida who carried no passenger - was traveling south on US 19. The release stated that the driver of the Mack truck attempted to make a U-turn, but before the U-turn could be commpleted, the two vehicles collided. 

After the collision, the Ford Ranger pickup truck traveled off the roadway onto the west grass shoulder and came to rest in the wood line, while the Mack concrete truck came to final rest, facing south, on the west shoulder of the roadway.

The release stated that the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup truck was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida with serious injuries.
