Homosasssa, Florida - According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the passenger of a vehicle that was involved in a two vehicle crash on Sunday, July 4, at 11:10 pm in Homosassa, expired from injuries sustained in the crash on Monday, July 12. He was a 60 year-old man from Lecanto, Florida. His identity was not released due to Marsy's Law, Florida's victim protection law.
The press release stated that man who died in the crash was a passenger inside a sedan that was driven by a 65 year-old woman, also of Lecanto, who was traveling north on S. Fireside Way, approaching the intersection with W. Grover Cleveland Blvd. The second vehicle involved in the crash, also a sedan, was driven by a 27 year-old Homosassa, Florida man, who was traveling west on W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., approaching S. Fireside Way. At the intersection, the Lecanto woman turned right onto W. Grover Cleveland Blvd. and lost control of her vehicle. Her sedan entered into the westbound lane, which caused the front of her sedan to strike the front of the second sedan. After the collision, both vehicles came to final rest within the roadway.
The female driver sustained serious injuries, and the male driver received minor injuries, according to the press release.
