Motorcyclist killed in July 21 Pine Ridge crash with sedan

A crash that occurred in Citrus County at 4:11 am, Tuesday morning, July 21, took the life of a 49 year-old Hernando, Florida man who was driving a motorcycle. 

The crash occurred on County Road 491 (N. Lecanto Hwy.) at W. Hampshire Blvd. in Pine Ridge, Florida.

According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on CR 491.

A 76 year-old Hernando, Florida man was driving a sedan, traveling north in the left turn lane of CR 491, approaching the intersection with W. Hampshire Blvd., as the motorcycle was traveling south on CR 491, approaching the  intersection.

At the intersection, the sedan turned left into the
path of the motorcycle, and as a result, the front of the motorcycle struck the right side of sedan, and the driver was ejected from the motorcycle, which came to rest in the center of the intersection, as did the sedan.

The driver of the motorycle, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to an area hospital, but later expired from injuries sustained during the crash. The driver of the sedan, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injuried in the crash.

Citing Macy's Law as the reason, the Florida Highway Patrol no longer provides identifying information of people or vehicles inolved in traffic crashes in its press releases.
