Citrus County, Florida - A deputy with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) was issued a traffic citation for careless driving after a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred Monday, May 24, at 3:26 pm, on N. Forest Ridge Blvd., 100 feet south of W. Herndon St., in Hernando, Florida.
According to a crash report by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the 36 year-old female deputy was driving a marked agency vehicle, a 2020 Ford Explorer utility vehicle, traveling in a northeasterly direction on N. Forest Ridge Blvd. in the inside lane, behind a 2012 Hyundai Sonata four-door sedan driven by a 54 year-old Beverly Hills woman, that was stopped, facing northeast behind traffic, in the inside lane of N. Forest Ridge Blvd., south of W. Sunbird Path. According to the FHP crash report, the deputy failed to stop, which resulted in the front of the deputy's patrol vehicle striking the rear end of the Hyundai Sonata.
The report stated that both vehicles were moved onto the northeast shoulder of the roadway prior to the arrival of the FHP trooper who investigated the crash, and photos of the crash were taken by a CCSO deputy.
