Inverness man dead after motorcycle crash at CR 490 / CR 44, Lecanto intersection
Lecanto (Citrus County), Florida - A single-vehicle traffic crash that occurred early Saturday morning, May 15, in Lecanto, Florida, took the life of the driver, a 51 year-old Inverness man who was driving a motorcycle. The crash occurred at 2:46 am. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver was traveling eastbound on West Gulf to Lake Highway (State Road 44) in the outside lane of travel, when for unknown reasons, lost control of the motorcycle, departed from the roadway, traveled across an adjacent sidewalk and also across West Homosassa Trail (County Road 490), and struck an electrical box on the southeast corner of the intersection. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, according to a press release by the FHP, suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
