Hernando school bus/sedan crash kills 8 year-old sedan passenger; no bus occupants injured

Hernando, Florida - A two-vehicle traffic crash involving a Citrus County school bus and a sedan, that occurred in Hernando, Florida, on Thursday afternoon, May 13, at 3:09 pm, resulted in the death of an 8 year-old girl from Hernando, Florida who was a passenger inside the sedan. No one aboard the school bus was injured, and the other two occupants of the sedan received minor injuries. 

The other two occupants of the sedan included the 75 year-old male driver and a 10 year-old girl, both of Hernando, and the occupants of the school bus included the driver, a 79 year-old man from Inverness, Florida, and thirty Citrus High School students being transported home after school in Inverness.

A FHP press release stated that the school bus was traveling east on State Road 200 and stopped at the intersection of East V.F.W. Lane in Hernando
and activated its red stop lights to disembark several students, and the sedan, which was also traveling east on State Road 200 behind the school bus, failed to stop, and collided with the rear of the school bus.

The 8 year-old girl, who was unrestrined inside the vehicle, according to the press release, was transported to an area hospital, but expired from injuries suffered during the crash.
