Dunnellon (Citrus County), Florida - A 73 year-old man from Ludington, Michigan, who was driving a motorcycle, died as the result of a traffic crash with a sedan that occurred on Thursday afternoon, April 1, on U.S. Highway 41 (N. Florida Ave.), near W. New Lenox Lane, in Dunnellon, Florida. The crash occurred at 2:01 pm
According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, the sedan, driven by a 29 year-old man from Citrus Springs (Dunnellon), Florida was traveling north on US 41, while the motorcycle was traveling south on US 41.
The press release stated that the sedan overtook another vehicle, which had just departed a private driveway located at 12039 N. Florida Ave., and the sedan failed to slow or stop, and the driver steered into the southbound lane, and into the path of the motorcycle, which resulted in the front left of the sedan colliding with the front of the motorcycle.
After the impact, the sedan rotated onto the west shoulder and came to rest. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle, which also came to rest on the west shoulder of the roadway.
The driver of the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to an area hospital where he later expired from injuries suffered during the crash.
The driver of the sedan, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries as a result of the crash.
Neither of the the drives carried a passenger. Their names were not stated in the press release, due to Marsy's Law, Florida's victim protection law.
