Please help identify person who abused and disposed of a dog, found dead in a bag on a Lecanto roadway, April 27th

Lecanto, Florida - The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is seeking the help of the public in obtaining information in regard to the abuse of a dog, found dead, inside a black bag on the side of the road off of W. Horace Allen Street in Lecanto.

Around 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 27, 2022, the agency was contacted by a citizen who had noticed the bag on the side of the road and had stopped to pick it up. The citizen noticed a strong odor coming from the bag, which was also leaking liquid. A deputy arrived on scene, and the bag was cut open. A deceased dog was found inside who showed apparent signs of abuse. 

The dog is described as a neutered adult male who weighed 25 lbs. He had long hair that was mostly black, with reddish-brown hair on his front and back legs, and tan or beige hair to his chest and stomach. His tail was a short stub, approximately 2 to 3 inches long, and he had short, floppy ears that folded over.

Citrus County Animal Control Officers will continue to investigate this case. Anyone who has information regarding the animal described, such as the identity of the possible owner, or perhaps having seen the garbage bag disposed of at this location, is asked to please contact the CCSO at 352-249-2790. Please help us find the person responsible for the suffering and death of this innocent animal.
