CCAS  using "Petco Love Lost" program to reunite lost pets with families

CCAS has joined forces with Petco Love, formerly known as the Petco Foundation, a national non-profit group that works to lead and inspire change for animals, along with other animal welfare groups across the country, on a shared mission to help reunite lost pets with their families should they ever go missing.

According to industry statistics, one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime. Petco Love Lost is a new, searchable national database that uses patented facial recognition technology to make finding lost pets quicker and easier. This simple-to-use tool will be easily accessible to participating animal organizations nationwide, as well as any pet parent or person who finds a lost pet at lost.petcolove.org. Uploaded photos of a missing dog or cat are immediately scanned to determine whether the lost pet is at a participating shelter or with a neighbor in the community.

“We see firsthand how quickly a pet can go missing, whether they were curious, following a scent, wandered through an open gate or became scared during a storm,” said Colleen Yarbrough, Citrus County Animal Services Director. “We work tirelessly to care for pets, whether they’re awaiting their forever home or lost and need help getting back to their families. There’s nothing more rewarding than reuniting families with their beloved pets and with Petco Love Lost, we’re confident it can lead to many more happy reunions, right here in Citrus County.”

Local veterinarian and author raises $1,500 for new CCAS shelter

On June 19, CCAS hosted a book signing for local author and veterinarian, Dr. K.C. Nayfield, for his new book, “Some of my Best Patients Were Animals: Memoirs of a Florida Veterinarian,” which tells the story of his career in veterinary medicine. As a result of this book signing, Dr. Nayfield raised $1,500 to be put toward a new animal shelter for CCAS. The funds were donated directly to the Citrus County Foundation for Animal Protection (CCFAP), which has the mission to help the animals stay physically and mentally healthy during their stay at CCAS and to help reduce the length of their stay.

Restaurant donates lunch for CCAS staff members

On June 25, 2021, Dillon’s Cinnamon Sticks restaurant, located at 727 U.S. Hwy. 41 S. in Inverness, FL prepared and delivered meals for each of the 17 staff members at CCAS. Ron Dillon, restaurant owner, stated that he wanted to recognize the employees of CCAS because they are good people doing good things within our community. He brought an array of wraps, sandwiches, baked goods, and the restaurant’s special chia pudding from their new Farmacy Healthy Menu.
