Citrus County, Florida - Last week, 66 year-old Tyrone Leroy Washington was convicted in Citrus County circuit court on drug charges and sentenced to 20 years in the Florida Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Joel E. Fritton. Washington pleaded no contest to the charges: two counts of trafficking in fentanyl, one count of trafficking in cocaine, and one count of possession of a controlled substance, with the intent to sell, within 1,000 feet of a school.
Assistant State Attorney Tara Hartman prosecuted this case.
Washington's charges stemmed from a 2024 investigation by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office that revealed drug trafficking activities that involved Washington. During September 2024, members of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Tactical Impact Unit coordinated numerous controlled purchases of narcotics from Washington.
At a residence in Dunnellon, Florida, Washington sold law enforcement personnel a trafficking amount of fentanyl that was field-tested and yielded positive results for the presence of the drug. A search warrant was subsequently obtained for the residence, and during the execution of the warrant, officials located a trafficking amount of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. Washington was arrested on the charges listed above.
