UPDATED:  Dylan Frantz, 36, of Inglis, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office, May 12, 2025, charged with unarmed burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and possession of drug equipment ($6,000 bond).
According to the arrest report, a deputy responded to a vacant property for sale, located on Risher Ave. in Inglis, due to report of a man being on the property the caller did not know and believed should not be there.
The deputy arrived at the property to find Frantz on the property, hanging a pair of jeans on the fence. The report stated that Frantz told the deputy that he was on the property, staying out of the rain and looking for some of his personal possessions he'd left at the property, years previously, one of the items being a pen. He also told the deputy that he'd been going inside the buildings looking around, because they were unlocked.
A witness reported seeing Frantz going in and out of the storage room and shop on the property.
The deputy found numerous items on the grass outside the open door to the shop that included a vape (electronic smoking device), wallet, phone with an attached power supply, a pack of cigarettes, and two lighters. Just inside the shop storage room door was a pair of socks that contained items inside them; one sock contained a reusable water bottle, and the other sock contained a zippered bank envelope, full of collectable coins. At the rear of the shop was a pair of wet cowboy boots, a bungee cord, and the lug nut of a vehicle.
Inside the wallet, the deputy found money and 0.3 grams of methamphetamine.
The deputy reported that Frantz denied ownership of all the items, other than the cell phone and the collectible coins; he said that he'd found all the other items.
The owner of the property told the deputy that Frantz had no permission to be on the property, and that she wanted to pursue charges against him.

UPDATED:  Rudy Eugene Funk, 39, of Chiefland, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), May 16, 2025, charged with neglect of an elderly person or disabled adult with great harm ($40,000 bond).
The arrest report stated, that on August 8, 2023, deputies responded to a residence located on NW 27th Place in Chiefland due to the report of a deceased woman, later identified as 66 year-old Jane Funk, the mother of Rudy Funk, who was her primary caretaker.
Rudy Funk told deputies that he last saw his mother alive at 2:00 a.m. that day, that he'd found her on the couch where she sleeps, motionless and cool to the touch, about 1:00 a.m., when he left the house, and after he though about it, it didn't seem right, so he called his wife to check on his mother, and she told him that she was gone, meaning she was deceased, so he retuned home from running an errand at a convenience store. He also told law enforcement that his mother was eating two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drinking a diet Mountain Dew around 1:00 a.m.
Rudy Funk also told law enforcement, that the only medical problems he was aware his mother had was blood in her stools, and that his mother had last been seen by a doctor at Palms Medical in Chiefland, a few years previously. Deputies learned that Ms. Funk had visited the medical facility during 2019, due to a sore on her neck. Deputies also learned that the Levy County Department of Public Safety had received no calls for medical assistance at the residence, or for the deceased.
A deputy reported that Ms. Funk was lying on her left side, wearing only an adult diaper that was severely soiled, and she was covered in flies, roaches and a lice infestation; that she had been deceased for longer than the two to three hour time period described by two people at the home. The report stated that Ms. Funk showed no indicators of trauma, but she was in an extreme state of malnutrition.
The arrest report stated that the condition or the deceased and the overall residence was deplorable, with roaches and bugs, and no food in the cupboards or refrigerator. The arrest report also noted that there were inconsistencies in statements made by Mr. Funk.
The 8th Judicial Circuit Medical Examiners (ME) Office conducted a check of the Shands Hospital system and found no hospital or doctors’ office visits for the deceased. In a medical report received by the LCSO from the Medical Examiner's Office on December 7, 2023, it stated that the probable cause of death was cardiac dysrhythmia due to complications of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, protein-calorie malnutrition and dehydration. The medical report explained that the death was preventable, and that elder abuse had several causes, and intentional or unintentional.
The Medical Examiner's report stated that unintentional neglect is attributed to a caregiver who fails to provide proper care to the elderly person, due to the physical, psychological, or cognitive impairment of the caretaker, which can include ignorance or lack of skills.
The report stated that the decedent had significant evidence of neglect of care, including dehydration, dermatitis, perineal/perianal dermatitis, insect proliferation of the face, torso, and pelvic regions, and a soiled diaper that was adhered to the skin of the buttocks, and the decedent had likely contributed to her condition through self-neglect, given her failure to participate in routine medical care and normal hygiene practices.
The report also stated that deaths caused by or hastened by grossly negligent care may be classified as “accident” unless there is clear indication of intent to do harm, and in this case, there was no current evidence to suggest intentional or volitional neglect or abuse to cause harm.
