Undocumented immigrant, living in Williston, indicted on a federal warrant due to committing a crime while armed with a shotgun

As the result of a domestic violence incident that occurred on February 12, 2025, 39 year-old Oscar Cruz-Baldo of Williston, Florida was indicted on a federal warrant.

According to the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) adopted this case due to Cruz-Baldo being an illegal alien in the United States and in possession of a firearm while committing a felony. This case was presented to a Federal Grand Jury, which resulted in a “True Bill” for an indictment and a federal warrant being issued for Cruz-Baldo on March 26, 2025. The warrant has since been executed and Cruz-Baldo, who will be held in custody at the Levy County Detention Bureau until his trial.

At 1:00 a.m., early in the morning of February 12, 2025, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on NE 147 Court in Williston, due to a report of report of domestic violence. 

The victim of the domestic violence reported to responding deputies, that earlier in the night, she'd been involved in a dispute with Oscar Cruz-Baldo, who'd appeared to be intoxicated, during which he'd punched her in the face during the argument. According to the LCSO, the victim had injuries consistent with her statements. Cruz-Baldo was also accused of repeatedly hitting and kicking a dog, causing injury to the animal who was attempting to defend the victim.  

Cruz-Baldo had fled from the residence, prior to the arrival of deputies, who was not located by deputies who searched for him for several hours after the incident was reported to the agency.

At 4:00 a.m. the same morning, the victim called 911, reporting that Cruz-Baldo had returned to the property, armed with a short barreled shotgun, threatening the victim with the gun, demanding that she unlock the gate and give him a cell phone. Due to fear, the victim unlocked the gate.

Cruz-Baldo left the property a second time, and deputies, once again, were unable to locate him.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. the same day, the LCSO received information that Cruz-Baldo was at a nearby farm. Deputies responded to the farm, located Cruz-Baldo, and took him into custody. According to the LCSO, Cruz-Baldo was cooperative with deputies and disclosed to them the location where he'd hidden the gun. 

Cruz-Baldo was placed under arrest, charged with battery ($5,000 bond), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill (no bond), and animal cruelty (undisclosed bond).

The warrant has since been executed. Cruz-Baldo will be held in custody at the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bfronson, Florida until his trial.
