An Inglis man was arrested during the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 26, 2025, as the result of an investigation into Inglis residents reporting to the Levy County Sheriff's Office that they'd heard a woman crying out for help at a residence located on SE 195th Place in Inglis, Florida.
Levy County Sheriff's Office deputies Patrick Lockett and Dakota Dowling arrived at the residence to find a woman in distress, clothed only in a blanket. The victim told deputies that she'd been physically attacked and sexually battered by 22 year-old Whyitt Wood. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment in undisclosed condition.
Detectives Shelby Kilian and Joe Barrera of the agency's Criminal Investigations Division assisted in the investigation, along with Victim Advocate Donna Sanderson and Crime Scene Detective Jennifer Langston. As the result of interviews and a brief investigation, probable cause was established to charge Wood with forcible sexual battery, kidnapping or false imprisonment of an adult, and domestic battery by strangulation.
Wood, an Inglis resident, was arrested on the charges listed above, and additionally charged with two counts of probation violation. At 8:07 am the same morning, he was booked into the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson, Florida, where he is being held, with his bond set at none on all his charges.
