On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office announced, "with a heavy heart," the passing, over the previous weekend, of retired K-9 (police dog) Ally, after a battle with cancer.
K-9 Ally served the CCSO, alongside her handler, Sergeant Chris Dearden, until the pair's joint retirement in October 2024. Sergeant Dearden served for 22 years - 17 in the agency's K-9 Unit - partnering with Ally, who was 10 years-old at the time, for his last 9 years of service.
Throughout her career, Ally completed 119 deployments. During her tenure, she also had 29 confirmed track and finds, showcasing her incredible scent skill.
After retirement, Ally enjoyed her time with Sergeant Dearden and his family, surrounded by love.
