Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO)

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting on Friday, January 5, 2024 in Morriston, Florida. Deputies arrived at the residential location to discover an injured man and a deceased woman, seated in a car, both of whom appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.

Detectives determined that the injured man, identified as Daniel Drake, had convinced the deceased woman, identified as Jeanette Pfleger, to get into the car with him, and he then took her life and attempted to take his own. Mr. Drake was transported to a local trauma unit, where he later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Levy County Sheriff's Office, Mr. Drake and Ms. Pfleger had been involved in a long term dating relationship that was ending.

"This investigation is still on-going, as detectives are trying to piece together the final hours of this case before it became violent," said a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release. "This is a sad ending, and the thoughts and prayers of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office are extended to all those effected by this senseless act of domestic violence."
