Lecanto (Citrus County), Florida - On Friday night, October 6, 2023, 23 year-old William Lindo, II, of Ocala, Florida was arrested as the result of fleeing from an attempted traffic stop by a Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) K-9 Deputy, although the press release did not state why Deputy Danner attempted to conduct the traffic stop.

The incident began in Lecanto, where Lindo was traveling west on County Road 486 (W. Norvell Bryant Hwy.) at County Road 491 (S. Lecanto Hwy.). Lindo did not stop when the deputy attempted to conduct the traffic stop. Instead, he continued traveling west on County Road 486, heading toward Crystal River, Florida.

Due to Lindo refusing to stop, Deput Danner pursued him, and patrol units placed a tire deflation device on the roadway of County Road 486, near the intersection with Donovan Avenue, slightly east of W. Gulf to Lake Hwy. (State Road 44) in Crystal River. Although the tire deflation device deflated the tires of Lindo's vehicle, Lindo continued traveling west, turned off his vehicle's lights, turned right onto W. Gulf to Lake Hwy. and then turned right onto Turkey Oak Drive, where he exited his vehicle and fled on foot.

While K-9 Deputy Danner and his K9 (canine) partner Riggs pursued Lindo on foot, patrol units and the agency's air unit responded to the area to set up a perimeter.

Meanwhile, Lindo entered a vehicle driven by a male juvenile near the 8000 block of Crystal Street - in an attempt to conduct a carjacking. When this was not successful, Lindo exited the youth's vehicle and ran off. Deputy Danner and K9 Riggs caught up to Lindo, and he was taken into custody.

After a K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics inside Lindo's vehicle, it was searched. During the search, deputies located 25.33 grams of fentanyl and 28.5 grams of cannabis.

Lindo was incarcerated at the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto, Florida, charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cannabis, burglary with battery, grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing from and eluding a law enforcement officer in pursuit, resisting an officer without violence, and attaching a tag to a vehicle not assigned to it. His bond was set at $61,000.

"Lindo not only put himself at risk last night, but countless citizens along the way," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "I am incredibly proud of my team for apprehending this reckless individual, and thankful no one was harmed. CCSO will remain relentless in our fight against illicit narcotics in our county."
