Pine Ridge (Citrus County), Florida - On Wednesday night, August 24, 2022, officials with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) arrested 22 year-old Jacqueline Jasmin Johnson-Cabrera of Ocala, Florida for the murder of 31 year-old Cory Schweitzer in Pine Ridge.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, the CCSO Communication Center received a call in regard to the discovery of a potential suicide that had occurred at a residence in Pine Ridge, Florida. It was relayed to the communications officer, that 31 year-old Cory Schweitzer had an apparent gunshot wound, and he was not breathing. First responders arrived at the residence shortly thereafter and pronounced Mr. Schweitzer as deceased.
Detectives with the CCSO Major Crimes Division responded to the residence to conduct an investigation. The preliminary information gathered at the scene led detectives away from the possibility that Schweitzer's death was a suicide, and as additional evidence was collected and analyzed, it became very clear that Cory Schweitzer, a detention deputy with the Marion County Sheriff's Office in Ocala, Florida, who was off duty at the time of the incident, had been murdered.
After an evaluation of forensic evidence and additional investigative work by Citrus County detectives, a warrant was obrained for the arrest of Johnson-Cabrera, a former girlfriend of Mr. Schweitzer.
Johnson-Cabrera was taken into custody and booked into the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto, Florida on a charge of second-degree murder, with her bond set at none.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Schweitzer's family, along with Sheriff Woods and the men and women of the Marion County Sheriff's Office, who knew and worked alongside Cory," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "Investigating homicide cases are difficult enough, let alone when the victim is a fellow law enforcement officer. This case presented many unique factors, and with the arrest of Johnson-Cabrera, I hope and pray the family and colleagues can now begin the healing process."
