Three other people were also arrested on Levy County, FL warrants on related charges (their names will be revealed later).
On August 14, deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff's Officer (ACSO) arrived at Shands UF Health Emergency Center Kanapaha ("ER"), located at 7405 SW Archer Rd. in Gainesville, FL, due to a man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen being dropped off by two men in a black four-door (Kia) passenger car. The gunshot victim was later pronounced deceased at the ER (his name will not be revealed due to Marsy's Law). After dropping off the gunshot victim at the ER, the Kia passenger car left the area.
Deputies uncovered evidence that included a handprint of one of the men who dropped off the gunshot victim at the ER, which was obtained from the ER door, along with the ER surveillance video. A traffic stop was conducted on the Kia, and the man who left his handprint on the ER door was located at his residence in the Tower Oaks area of Gainesville, FL.
According to a male witness/crime participant, he and his girlfriend had traveled to Levy County, FL, where they'd met with the gunshot victim and another person at the Dollar General store, located at 7090 SW State Road 24 in Cedar Key, FL.
The girlfriend told deputies that she and her boyfriend had picked up the gunshot victim and another man, and she'd driven them to a residence in Cedar Key, FL where the men planned to commit a robbery for drugs and money. She said that she stayed in the car while the three men exited the car, all wearing face masks, to commit the robbery. She said she heard two shots and the three men all came running back to the car, that she then drove to a residence in Chiefland, where they planned to obtain drugs, which is where they allegedly learned that the gunshot victim had been shot, and they then drove him to the ER and dropped him off. She identified Ocean Dunn and his residence from photographs.
The male witness told deputies that Mr. Dunn and another man had been casing a residence, located in the 7000 block of SW 122nd Terrace in Cedar Key, FL, and that he, his girlfriend, another man, and the gunshot victim had gone to the residence to commit a home invasion robbery for drugs and money. He said that entry into the home was made by one of the men (he was armed) kicking in a door, and the gunshot victim (he was also armed) was standing nearby. The witness said, as he (the witness) ran toward his car, he heard two shots being fired. He said that Dunn and the other man, who had both  coordinated the robbery, had not gone near the residence because they were worried that the owner would be able to identify them. The witness also told deputies that they transported the gunshot victim to a Chiefland residence and then to the ER in Gainesville, FL. He was able to identify Dunn and his residence from photos shown to him by deputies. He said that the gunshot victim had been taken to Dunn's residence for first aid, prior to his being transported to the ER in Gainesville.
Ocean Dunn and his girlfriend were interviewed at the Chiefland Police Department with Dunn's attorney present. The report stated that Dunn's girlfiend told officers that Dunn had told her that he and several friends were buyng"weed" (marijuana) on August 13, and the following day, he told her, that while buying the weed, a man had been shot and he'd died, that there had been an argument, but he did not provie her with further details, according to the arrest report.
