UPDATED WITH VICTIM'S NAME

Hernando, Florida - A man found dead inside a vehicle in Hernando, shortly after 1:00 am, Thursday morning, Sept. 9, 2021, has been identified as 20 year-old Marquel Rayquan Murray, also known as "Manny." According to the CCSO, deputies arrived on the scene of what had been reported as a vehicle crash in the area of N. Alabaster Dr. and E. Dearborn Dr., to find an unconscious black male, later identified as Mr. Murray, inside a white pickup truck in the woods. Deputies rendered first aid until first responders from Citrus County Fire Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced Mr. Murray as deceased.

Deputies soom noticed that Mr. Murray's injuries were more consistent with a gunshot wound than from a vehicle crash. The Medical Examiner's Office responded to the area and will determine the official cause of death. Meanwhile, detectives from the CCSO Major Crimes Unit are investigating the suspicious death as a possible homicide.

Early morning roadside death, Hernando, FL, thought to be homicide from gunshot wound

Citrus County, Florida -  Early Thursday morning, Sept. 9, 2021, shortly aftere 1:00 am, deputies from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported vehicle accident off North Alabaster Dr. and East Dearborn Dr. in Hernando, Florida.

Upon arrival, deputies located a white pickup truck in the woods, with an unconscious black man inside it, who first appeared to have heavy trauma and injuries from a traffic crash. As deputies attempted to render first aid to the man, they noticed that his injuries were more consistent with a gunshot wound than what would be expected from a vehicle crash.

Additinal first responders from Citrus County Fire Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced the man as deceased. The Medical Examiner's Office responded to the area and will determine the official cause of death.

Detectives from the CCSO Major Crimes Unit are investigating this suspicious death as a possible homicide. Further details are not available at this time. 

"I would like to encourage anyone with information regarding this case to call our office," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "While we believe this to be an isolated incident, there are many unknown details that we seek your assistance in obtaining, in support of our investigation."
