Levy County, Florida - On Monday, August 16, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Division filed second degree murder charges against Jerett Justus, 32. of Morriston, Florida, after an investigation that began on July 5, 2021, when Mr. Justus called Levy County 911 to report that his girlfriend had shot herself.

Justus, a multiple-time convicted felon, was arrested the same night, charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Since that time, he's been in custody at the Levy County Detention Bureau, according to Lt. Scott Tummond.

From evidence collected at the scene, on the night of the shooting, detectives pieced together what likely happened, that Justus had shot his girlfriend as the result of an argument, which contradicted the claim Justus made that his girlfriend had committed suicide.

Justus's bond has been set at $800,000. His trial date has not yet been scheduled.
