Scott was a suspect in a domestic violence call, and when deputies arrived at his residence to speak to him, he opened fire on the four responding deputies with a handgun and fled. The manhunt was conducted on Scott’s family 22-acre property on U.S. Hwy. 41 in Morriston, which is overgrown and filled with junk vehicles.

Williston, Florida - On Friday afternoon, July 16, deputies with the Levy County Sheriff's Office took 39 year-old Adam John Scott, of Williston into custody, after an exchange of gunfire with deputies and a day-long manhunt on a large property with approximately 50 abandoned vehicles and RVs and numerous outbuildings to provide him with cover.

Neither Mr. Scott nor the four deputies involved in the gunfire were injured, according to LCSO Public Information Officer Lt. Scott Tummond.

About 7:00 pm on Thursday night, July 15, Lt. Tummond said, a woman, who identified herself as Adam Scott's wife, contacted the LCSO's 911 Emergency Center and stated that Scott was armed with a handgun and had fired shots into the air while speaking on the phone with a family member.

Four deputies arrived at the described location, in the 200 block of NE Highway 41 in Williston, and Scott began shooting at them. Deputies returned fire at Scott, who quickly disappeared into his large property. Several agencies, including a helicopter unit from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, arrived on scene to assist with the manhunt. The following afternoon, Scott was found hiding on his property and taken into custody.

Scott was charged with being principal to soliciting or conspiring, a Level 1 or 2 public order crime, with his bond set at $1,000,000.

Lt. Tummond said that the incident was precipitated by an argument between Mr. Scott and his wife. He said the LCSO has a procedure in place called Critical Stress Management, in which deputies involved in stressfull situations engage in a roundtable type discussion, with counselors available, if needed, to help manage stress.
