An expired tag and an outstanding warrant led to the arrest of a couple in Bronson, Florida, Monday afternoon, April 26, after a LCSO detective observed a silver Ford truck, with a tag that had been expired for several months, pull into a gas station, west of Bronson, on State Road 24. The driver was later identified as Sarah Muhammad, 39, of Norfolk, Connecticut.

The detective observed the passenger exit the vehicle, and recognized him as Danny Jackson, 24, of Ocala, Florida. The detective was aware that Jackson had an outstanding Marion County, Florida warrant for violation of probation, and also that Jackson has a history of violence when encountered by law enforcement, so prior to confronting Jackson, the detective requested backup assistance from a patrol deputy.

The two officers devised a plan and conducted a traffic stop away from the store. According to a press release, Ms. Muhammad refused to provide identification to the deputies, and told the deputies, “I ain’t giving you (expletive).” She was immediately detained.

Mr. Jackson exited the vehicle and approached the deputies in an aggressive manner and hurled racial slurs at them when he saw that Ms. Muhammad was being detained. Mr. Jackson’s behavior prompted the deputies to make a radio request for additional deputies to assist them. A passer-by who viewed the incident also called 911, telling telecommunicators that the deputies needed help! Five deputies were eventually involved in the arrests, and all five were needed to gain control of Mr. Jackson, who violently resisted arrest.

Mr. Jackson was arrested on the Marion County warrant (no bond) and additionally charged with resisting arrest with violence, obstruction, breach of peace, and assault of a law enforcement officer ($225,000 bond).

Ms. Muhammad was charged with resisting arrest without violence and disturbing the peace ($2,500 bond).
