Levy County Detention Bureau, Bronson, Florida
Bronson, Florida - Gary Roy Thunquest, 53, of Bronson, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), March 2, as the result of an altercation that occurred at his NE 88th Lane, Bronson residence on Thursday, February 27.
When deputies arrived at the residence shortly after the incident, the victim told them that she'd been battered by Thunquest, her live in boyfriend, during an argument over money. The victim said that Thunquest had repeatedly choked and kicked her and struck her with a chair. As a result of this attack, the victim was hospitalized with broken bones, according to a press release.
Initially, LCSO deputies and detectives were unable to locate Thunquest, who had fled the home prior to their arrival. The following day, March 1, detectives obtained a warrant for Thunquest's arrest on charges of aggravated battery and felony domestic battery by strangulation.
On the morning of March 2, detectives located Thunquest at his home. "Thunquest did not go quietly," said LCSO Lt. Scott Tummond. "He did fight with detectives, and as a result, detectives had to use a Tazer (a 50,000-volt electric shock weapon) to safely take him into custody."
Detectives learned that Thunquest, a convicted sex offender, had not complied with sex offender registration requirements by reporting his address since moving to Levy County, so in addition to the warrant charges of aggravated battery, and domestic battery by strangulation, he was additionally charged with resisting an officer without violence, and not reporting his address change to law enforcement, as required of a sex offender in Florida.
According to Lt. Tummond, Thunquest's lengthy criminal history began in 1986, and he has 27 felony convictions that include burglary, grand theft, drug possession, weapons possession, aggravated battery, robbery, sex crimes and escape, and 9 times he has been sentenced to serve time with the Florida Department of Corrections.
