Levy County, Florida prepares for Hurricane Idalia landfall
Levy County is preparing for the landfall of Hurricane Idalia onTuesday afternoon, August 29, and into the early morning of Wednesday, August 30. Levy County is making emergency preparations to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors. Major concernes are hurricane force winds, flooding - and life-threatening storm surge.
The following emergency orders have been passed:
• Levy County Schools have been canceled for Tuesday (8/29/23) and Wednesday (8/30/23)
• The special needs shelter will be open at the Bronson Elementary School, located at 400 Ishie Ave. in Bronson, Florida at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning (8/29/23)
• The general population and pet friendly shelter will be open at the Bronson Middle/High School, located at 351 Ishie Ave. in Bronson, Florida at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning (8/29/23). The Williston Middle High School shelter will be open, once the Bronson Middle/High School shelter is near capacity.
• Citizens with animals that need to be sheltered must bring a crate, food, bottled water (a 1 gallon jug per animal) and any medications the pet may be taking. Owners must provide their pet's Rabies vaccine certificate and proof of distemper parvo/feline distemper vaccine. Levy County Animal Services will provide vaccines for addition $10.00 per vaccine. All animals will be sheltered at the Levy County Animal Control shelter, if you cannot provide proof of vaccinations. Citizens who have pet questions should call (352) 486-5138.
• All county boat ramps will be closed at end of business today, Monday (8/28/23).
• The Cedar Key airport will be closed
• Residents can obtain sandbags, sandbag sites are now operational, at the following locations:

• Cedar Key Community Center - 809 6th St., Cedar Key, FL
• Rosewood Baptist Church - 6331 SW 98th Terrace, Cedar Key, FL
• Yankeetown Water Plant - Hwy. 40 West, Yankeetown, FL
• Inglis Municipal Building - 135 Hwy. 40 West, Inglis, FL
• Bronson Town Hall - 650 Oak St., Bronson, FL
• Chiefland Maintenance Yard - 920 SE 4th St, Chiefland, FL
• Fowler’s Bluff Fire Station - 4591 NW County Rd. 347, Chiefland, FL
• Morriston Fire Station 11 - 2830 State Rd. 121, Morriston, FL (Williston Highlands)
• Fanning Springs Fire Station - 90th Court, Trenton, FL
• Empty lot across from the Williston Police Department (5 SW 1st Ave., Williston, FL)
