10th grade student at Chiefland High School arrested, charged with battering school employee

Levy County, Florida - On Thursday, September 8, 2022, a 15 year old male 10th grade student at Chiefland Middle/High School in Chiefland, Florida was arrested by Levy County School Resource Deputy J. Gulledge, charged with battery of a school employee.

"Sheriff (Bobby) McCallum continues his partnership with Levy County School Superintendent Chris Cowart in their zero tolerance of school violence against school employees," said LCSO Lt. Scott Tummond.

According to Lt. Tummond, the student was actively fighting another student when school officials intervened. The student continued to fight, even after school staff members ordered him to stop fightingsaid Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum. and physically pulled him away from the other student. During the incident, one staff member was struck twice by the student, suffering minor injuries. Deputy Gulledge arrested the student, who was transported to the Levy County Detention Bureau and later released to the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

“There is no reason for school teachers, staff and administrators to be battered by students or anyone else," said Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum. "If you choose this type of behavior, then you can expect to be charged and held accountable.”
