On January 30, 2021, Sara "Sally" Price, 72, of Coral Springs, Florida, a long-time former resident of the Inglis/Yankeetown, Florida area, finished her battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at home, with her family at her side.
Sally, who spent her childhood in Alabama before moving to Florida, followed in the footsteps of her mother and worked with the United States Postal Service as a postmaster. She began her career as a clerk with the Inglis, Florida Post Office in March of 1965, at only 17 years of age, and was eventually promoted to postmaster. She later transferred to the Yankeetown, Florida Post Office, where she also served as postmaster, until her retirement in March 2006.
Sally, who enjoyed life and undertaking new challenges, became a licensed realtor in 1998, and upon her retirement, concentrated on expanding TradeWinds of Mandalay Realty from Kissimmee, Florida into the the Inglis/Yankeetown and surrounding areas. She later worked for a short time with River Coast Realty in Inglis. In 2006, she began work as an independent news reporter for The Newscaster (Newscaster Publishing), where she also shared her knowledge as a historian of the Inglis/Yankeetown area, and worked in this capacity until 2015, when she moved to Coral Springs to be closer to her family.
Sally's volunteer work included the Florida Sheriff‘s Youth Ranch, Caruth Camp in Inglis, where she served on the Caruth Camp Board of Associates and five times as president. She was a First Responder state certified volunteer firefighter for 20 years, and was one of the founders of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Withlacoochee Crime Watch, for which she was a driver and served seven years as director. She was also a lifetime member of the Yankeetown Inglis Woman’s Club.
She was an avid boater, and for many years held a valid captain’s license. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the (now closed) Inglis V.F.W. Post 8698.
Sally was elected to serve on the Yankeetown Town Council and resigned, just short of one full term after receiving various threats. She was later elected to the Inglis Town Commission and received, at that time, the largest number of votes ever received for a town commissioner.
Sally was preceeded in death by her son, Jon Denis "Deni" Price, Jr., 48, on November 13, 2012.
She is survived by her daughter Diana Lynn Price-Hough of Coral Springs, Florida; five grandchildren, Jon Price of Rutledge, Georgia, Katie Hough Del Valle of Houschton, Georgia, Jesse Hough of Coral Springs, Florida, Victoria Hough Srado of Coral Springs, Florida, and Allie Frick of Coral Springs, Florida; four great grandchildren, and a brother, Lee Weaver, of Peachtree City, Georgia.
Sally's ashes, along with those of her son, Jon Denis Price, Jr., will be buried in the Cedars of Lebanon cemetery north of Inglis.
Sally was loved by many, and she cared for others even more. She never met a stranger.
