DESCRIPTION: Join us to learn how caregivers of people living with dementia can prepare for hurricanes or other potential disasters. Dr. Lindsay Peterson will summarize findings from a research study focusing on caregiver’s recommendations and tips about disasters. Judy Silverstein will describe the environment and limitations of Special Needs Shelters for those with cognitive impairment. In addition, Carol White will provide tips to help you communicate effectively with individuals with dementia and to share these tips with others who may be involved in their care during a hurricane or other disaster.

DESCRIPTION:  In Part Two, Dr. Catherine Price, director of the Perioperative Cognitive Anesthesia Network for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias, University of Florida discusses the basics of anesthesia, literature on spinal versus general anesthesia outcomes, and brain areas associated with anesthesia response. Then, Alzheimer’s Community Educator Ryan Gamberino shares research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement.
