The HERO Program, operated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and managed by the HSI Cyber Crimes Center, is an annual, federally funded program with the mission to combat the growing problem of child exploitation by recruiting, training, and equipping wounded, ill, or injured veterans to become computer forensic analysts (CFAs).
Although positions are not guaranteed, the goal at the end of the internship is to hire successful interns as full-time CFAs to assist Special Agents in the rescue of child sexual victims, the prosecution of sexual predators, and the prevention of child sexual abuse.
The HERO Program consists of 13 weeks of paid HSI introductory and forensic training, followed by a 9 month-long paid internship in computer forensics labs at HSI offices throughout the U.S. Interns are assigned to locations they select during the application and hiring process.
Applications will be accepted online from April 18, 2022 to April 29, 2022 at www.ice.gov/hero. The website provides the program information, eligibility information, frequently asked questions, and allows you to sign up for automated email updates.
